It is with great sadness that, after 35 years, we will be closing our Shelter, Inc. Thrift Store (622 S. Roselle Rd. in Schaumburg) on September 24th.
Over the years, there have been many changes and challenges in the economic climate. Today there is fierce competition from ecommerce, national chains, consignment stores, and the drastically reduced prices at retail stores as a result of their own struggles with online competition.
It has become more difficult for small, non-profit shops to survive in this new economy. We know that the Shelter Thrift Shop has been a place in the community where volunteers, customers and staff have found a warm and welcoming home.
There is much work to do before we close at the end of September. We invite you to visit our shop, thank the volunteers and staff, and maybe pick up an item or two. Your support of Shelter and our programs is so appreciated as we navigate the challenges ahead!
