The Holiday spirit was alive and well at Shelter this year thanks to the generosity of our supporters.
Every year we ask the children in our Foster Care and Healthy Families program what they would like for the holidays. Each child is asked to let us know of us one item of clothing and one toy or personal item they would like. Individuals, families, groups and corporations are all welcome to “adopt a child” for the holidays so they can to donate the items the children have added on their lists. Donations of new toys, books and clothing are always greatly appreciated and cash donations are welcome as well.
Thanks to the generosity of hundreds of local families and businesses, we are pleased to say that all of our children received their items on their wish list. The excitement on the faces of the children as they open gifts is one of our favorite parts of the holiday season and it would not be possible without such generous support.
In addition to the holiday wish list gifts for specific children, we also received donations of general items for our three group homes and other programs. People generously donated new toiletry items, art supplies, puzzles, games, towels, sheets, pajamas, winter coats and much more. Every year we’re amazed at the overwhelming generosity of our supporters!
This tradition has been a part of our organization for many years and we couldn’t do it without the help of volunteers who purchase and sort all the gifts. Volunteers are a critical part of our work and ensure that we can continue to provide services for a growing number of children and their families.
